Rules & closed seasons

Depending on the water, minimum sizes apply to zander — 40 cm in several lakes — as well as local closed seasons and protected areas around the spawning period. In Vänern, zander fishing in the Fredningsområden is prohibited from 25 April to 25 May. Havs- och vattenmyndigheten sets out the rules for the coast and the five large lakes; in all other waters, the fishing rights holder decides.
