Mörtströmmens fisheries management area is located in the southern part of Bräkneån, just before it meets the Baltic Sea. The permit applies to the southern part of Bräkneån, but also to the western side of Vierydån up to the boundary between Väby 13:4 and Hakarp, as well as the lakes Bysjön and Viesjön. See fishing areas, parking and the zoning of Bräkneån under the Map tab. Southern Bräkneån is known both for fine waters and very beautiful nature experiences. The area attracts with both fishing and walking trails, where Blekingeleden and the Bräkne-Leden cycle route pass by. At Mörtströmmen, roach along the coast outside the mouth have had one of their largest spawning areas. For thousands of years they have spawned here during spring, and have been of great importance to local residents' income and household. Ide, or orten as it is called here, comes up the river in large numbers at the beginning of April to spawn. Vimba bream, or by the local name “Sätterna”, is related to roach and ide, and comes upstream in early summer. The common bleak, benlöjan, is also abundant. Eel is protected. It has decreased considerably, but some eels still occur in the river's deeper pools. Burbot is found here; it both swims in the current and hides in the pools. Brook lamprey is still found in the river. Their larvae lie buried in the sand for up to 4 years before they hatch. Spawning takes place in early summer. In autumn, sea trout enter to spawn. The young grow up in shallow flowing stretches. On good stretches, such as under the road bridge here, there can be up to 4 young per m2. Pike and perch are the “top consumers” in the fish community. They have become popular fish and offer exciting and enjoyable fishing, for all ages, for many sport anglers, and are common in the river. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 12.
