Borrsjöån is a small forest river whose source flow comes from Borrsjön in Dalarna, from where it then flows into Gästrikland and out into Storsjön. Borrsjöån is a very beautiful river with highly varied environments, ranging from longer, slow-flowing stretches in marshland to more fast-flowing sections through dense coniferous and mixed forest. Borrsjöån holds an entirely unique stock of trout called Borrsjöåtrout; unfortunately, the trout has been affected by human impact on nature, like many other of our Swedish watercourses and lakes. What has previously been destroyed by us humans must now be remedied by us, which we will try to contribute to on our fly-fishing stretch. We call the project "Save the Borrsjöåtrout". On our fly-fishing stretch, Borrsjöån shows itself from its most beautiful side, with varied current sections alternating with fine small pools and glides. The river is surrounded by an enchanting coniferous forest in the upper parts, while this changes to more mixed forest in the lower sections. The bottom structure consists of sand and gravel in the calmer sections and pools, while stones of varying size create strong current sections. "Insect life" Insect life is very varied throughout the year. From May until the end of August, reed mayflies, grey mayflies, lake mayflies, damselflies, caddisflies and lots of good terrestrial insects hatch, among other things. Around Midsummer and for a couple of weeks afterwards, we have large hatches of the gourmet mayfly - the grey mayfly (Ephermera Danica) and lake mayfly (Ephermera Vulgata), which give us dry-fly fishing in an unrivalled style! During this period it is easy to find rising fish along the whole stretch, as the fish feast on these delicacies. Another enjoyable period is when the damselflies are active. Then the fish hunt very aggressively and you can see the fish jump really high, even into the overhanging bushes and trees! From September, midges and the occasional stonefly together with terrestrial insects attract fish to rise. The fish often stand close to the bank and head and tail, when flies in very small sizes are needed. In the area there is one or more water for catch-and-release, i.e. the fish are carefully released after capture. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 16 years. Only when accompanied by a guardian/adult/person who has a valid permit (on that person's quota) In the company of an adult who has bought (Day permit 300:-) Update - 2025 From 31 May 2025, we are once again opening our incredibly fine stretch to fly-fishing guests. Since the start in 2016, we have worked to begin a restoration of the stretch we lease. We have now been granted funds for this project, which we call “save the Borrsjöåtrout”. The project also means that the time for continuing to stock rainbow trout in the water is over. We may now fish for the rainbow trout remaining on the stretch together with the unique trout stock that is present.
