Vallsjön

The just over 700 ha Vallsjön has strong stocks of large perch and pike. Perch fishing is perhaps among the best in southern Sweden, both in number and size, in summer as well as winter. Perch over the one-kilo mark are common. The largest documented perch in the lake was 1.8 kg. The largest landed pike to date is 15.9 kg. Fish in Vallsjön! The lake also has a strong whitefish stock, which provides a good food base for the lake's perch and pike. The most common fishing in the lake is spin fishing, jigging and trolling, but angling from a boat can also be productive. Jigging and ice fishing are best in the northern half of Vallsjön. The depth varies here and if you cannot find the fish in shallow water, you can search deeper. The lake also has plentiful signal crayfish, but fishing for them is limited to landowners. Vallsjön is a clear-water lake with very good water quality and is a drinking-water source for Sävsjö Municipality. An example of the good water quality is the occurrence of the nationally red-listed blue-green alga lake snowball. Vallsjön has high biodiversity, mainly because of relatively species-rich fish and bird fauna, a large lake area, and a varied shoreline. Breeding bird species in the lake include black-throated diver, great crested grebe, red-breasted and goosander, common goldeneye and mallard. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 15. Vallsjöns fisheries management area makes fishing in Vallsjön available; it has high biodiversity, mainly because of relatively species-rich fish and bird fauna, a large lake area and varied shoreline.
