Hjortesjön is located just outside Virserum towards Stenberga, in Hultsfred and Vetlanda municipalities. In everyday speech, Hjortesjön is also called Lake Hjorten. Hjortesjön is a humic and oligotrophic lake with varied bottom topography. Deep holes down to just under 19 m are interspersed with islands and shallow areas. The lake shores mainly consist of stone and boulder bottoms. Vegetation is sparse, with small, thin stands of common reed, water lilies and bulrushes in sheltered bays. The lake is mainly surrounded by coniferous forest, with elements of deciduous forest, arable land and pasture. There is a boat ramp in Mörtefors; see the map. Parking at the boat ramp is possible; remember to show consideration for residents and do not park too close. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 14. Only in the company of a parent/guardian/adult. Handheld tackle only. Must have valid identification with you. We safeguard the interests of the water owners and manage fishing in Hjortesjön. The fishing association was formed in the 1920s. The association’s interest is to manage and preserve fishing in Hjortesjön, including stocking adult zander and, on a few occasions, yearling zander.
