Private roads are used to reach some of our waters. The roads may be closed at certain times during spring and autumn to prevent damage from vehicles. In winter, roads are only ploughed if forest transport takes place on the road. Ask our permit sellers about the condition of the roads BEFORE starting your journey. In winter, most waters are reached via snowmobile trails. NOTE. A fishing permit is required for all waters within the area (including Gideälven, Bergvattssjön, Bodumssjön and Gissjön). The fish count against the adult's permit. Gideå västra fiskevårdsområde began operations in 1989. We are a voluntary association that wants to improve fishing within our area using the money we receive from fishing permits, which is returned to fisheries-promoting measures in our locality. To help us map the area and assess suitable measures, we have received assistance from Örnsköldsvik Municipality and Länsstyrelsen Västernorrland. Based on the investigations carried out into suitable sites within our area, we have proceeded and started a number of projects. Some examples are shown below. Tarns have been fished with fyke nets to reduce the population of small perch, which improves conditions for trout/Arctic char. Spawning zones have been improved through various measures, including placing stones on the bottom for spawning and stocking roe. Rotenone treatment has been carried out in certain tarns, after which stocking has taken place with apparently good results. Comfort measures have been implemented in the form of cabins, wind shelters, jetties, trails, boat launching sites, etc. A good number of our waters have been limed and included in the municipality's liming plan. In several cases we have raised the pH value in the water from a doubtful 5.6 to 6.9 through the liming measures undertaken. Some lakes have had their reeds cleared using our own equipment. Fishing wardens have been trained. We hope that you appreciate the measures undertaken and that they lead to good fishing where we all enjoy clean and beautiful nature.
