Borstingen, covering 67 ha, is situated approximately 4 km east of Vimmerby in the direction of Västervik along Rv40. Surrounded by both deciduous and coniferous forest, it provides a wonderful nature experience despite its proximity to the main road. The clear, cold spring water with good water quality and pH value, combined with depths of up to 25 metres, creates the conditions for exciting fishing. The species present are pike, perch, roach, tench, burbot and signal crayfish. Borstingen’s good population of noble crayfish was destroyed by plague at the end of the 1970s, after which signal crayfish were stocked in the 80s. This stocking produced good catches in some parts of the lake at the end of the 90s, but catches now vary considerably and for that reason crayfish fishing is permitted only for land/water owners between the first Wednesday in August and six weeks thereafter. Borstingen’s Fishing Association was founded in the 1930s and was reorganised as a Fishing Conservation Area Association in 1991. We manage fishing in our spring lake with clear, deep water, no inlets and only one outlet. Our long-term aim is, through well-balanced fishing, to preserve and develop the fish species present today while maintaining water quality.
