Vindelåforsens Stugby The landowners of Bertejaure and Vindelaforsen Cottages urge you to bear in mind in mind this simple policy to guide you to a responsible fishing: "Fishing in the way you prefer means always to leave fish in the water for the next guest to enjoy." The rules of this license: License is bought to open up for your sport-fishing at our place using handheld equipment and only one rod per license. Use a spoon, a fly, a wobbler or the special arrangement for arctic char "långedrag". Three fish can be kept per license and day. Fish with injuries are also counted from this baglimit, therefore we recommend hooks with no quills. If fish can be put back in the water without injuries, you can easily choose larger ones to keep for dinner at the camp fire. Using other tools than sport fishing equipment is not allowed. (Nets or traps for instance) Please observe that half of the Lake Bertejaure is administered on a different license. Please ask your guide where information for those rules can be found. Bertejaure Gård Vägavgift GEORGSVÄGEN – voluntary contribution to care and maintenance. For those who appreciate that there is a path to walk that is wide and spacious. Signs at the beginning of the road are posted to inform that vehicular traffic is prohibited except for authorized traffic. (SFS 1998:1276 Traffic Ordinance Chapter 2, § 2) Feel free to walk Georgsvägen! Brief history: Bertejaure Byalag has a right to take two roads from Ammarnäs to the homestead on the north bank of the Vindelälven. The right is recorded in the Divestment Protocol from 1923. This is an easement-like right. During the summer of 1988, Georg Berglund invested work and money in what we today call Georgsvägen. The Agricultural Board gave permission for improvements on the old path. The county board as well. The nature reserve does not constitute an obstacle to an exit route from the homestead. Lake Bertejaure lies 10 km as the crow flies east of the mountain village of Ammarnäs. You reach the area by hiking along Georgsvägen or by purchasing one of the packages offered by Bertejaure Gård. Note that motor vehicles must not use Georgsvägen. The road was built for the landowner's management of their own land at the lake, and all unauthorised traffic is prohibited. Georg's tractor road begins where the main road ends in Norra Ammarnäs and follows the shore of Lake Gautsträsk, passes the mill at Bissanbäcken and Bissanbäcken waterfall, then climbs steeply and leaves the 400-metre level to reach just over 570 metres above sea level. You reach the southern shore of Bertejaure after a ten-kilometre walk from the car park.About the lake and surroundingsLake Bertejaure therefore lies on a low-mountain plateau in a belt of birch forest that later changes into bare mountain if you continue north from the area. The mountain birches surrounding the water gave Björkfjället its name, a prominent peak north of the lake. The mountain is called Biergenis in Sami and the old people pronounced the lake's name "Biertejaure", so we must assume that the name in Swedish translation means "Björksjön". The shores of Lake Bertejaure are extensively covered with birch.Fish species in the areaBertejaure contains trout and char that reproduce naturally. The lake has a long shoreline and lush vegetation. Research in the 1960s named the lake the char water with the best reproduction in the mountains, with very high growth. In later years, warm water has caused the char, particularly in summer, to seek deeper water and become difficult to catch. Instead, trout have begun to dominate the lake and in summer fill all bays and channels with lively leaps - yes, the trout has adopted behaviour that was not common before: it jumps high above the water surface and splashes loudly when it lands in the water again. Something that sport anglers appreciate. The trout is strong, and a half-kilo Bertejaure trout feels like a one-kilo fish compared with other areas of the world. Can anything be caught?Catches are usually around half a kilo, up to one kilo. Occasional two-kilo trout have been landed in recent years. The largest trout I have personally experienced weighed five kilos, and my father caught it in a net at the end of the sixties. There is also a story about an eleven-kilo trout landed while fishing outside "Fågelsundet" - but that was a very long time ago.Char may be found from half a kilo upwards, but two-kilo fish are unusual. The largest I have personally caught was two kilos. Fishing from a boat is preferableThe lake consists of three parts connected by narrow channels into one whole: Östra sjön, Västra sjön and Mittisjön. Bays, islets, channels and peninsulas form a landscape with many different spaces, and guests on the company's packages never feel crowded at the fishing spots. With a rowing boat you can travel into one space and not see another angler for a long time, even though the next boat may be nearby.Fishing in tarns and a streamFishing is therefore best from a rowing boat, but the area also has thirty small tarns nearby, so those who hike can have many opportunities to try their luck without a boat. Another popular part of the area is Racksjöbäcken, a flowing watercourse travelling eastwards from Bertejaure and particularly suitable for fly fishing. The stream winds through small pools, rapids and also some large still waters before meeting Racksjön and later Soutsjaure. An area with two licencesIf you want to fish in all directions, supplement with the County Administrative Board's Fjällfiskekort. This gives you as a sport angler more freedom of movement, allowing you to adapt your fishing to weather and wind and to the method you prefer - fly, spoon lure, spinner or another. If it is windy on Västra sjön, it may be calmer on Östra sjön, and you are not prevented by having only one licence.Bertejaure packageThe company Bertejaure Gård offers an experience package - including a rowing boat and life jacket, accommodation in a hut on the lake shore with self-catering equipment, an outdoor barbecue site and a wood-fired sauna. The guided tour to the lake begins at the sauna in Vindelåforsens Stugby down in Ammarnäs. There we pack your equipment (food and clothes, fishing gear, camera, boots) into the jeep and trailer that take you up to the boathouse at the lake. Your guide stops at several places along Georgsvägen so that you can learn details about the places we pass and become familiar with the area's culture and history. When we arrive at the boathouse, we load the boats and travel across the lake from the southern to the northern shore. The guided tour gives you a thorough introduction to the area, after which you and your party can explore the waters independently. The packages last from three to seven days.Winter fishingIn winter you can hire a hut and snowmobile, or ask your guide to drive you up to the hut for a winter-fishing adventure - ice fishing. Depending on ice quality, you can walk and/or drive between fishing spots, and as in summer, the wind shelter and the warmth of the hut provide comfort. The area contains one or more waters for catch-and-release, i.e. the fish are carefully released after being caught. The company Bertejaure Gård ( formerly Vindelåforsens Stugby) has existed in its present form since 1993 and is owned by Urban Berglund. He operates Bertejaure Fiskecamp and is responsible for fish conservation at the mountain lake Bertejaure. The company is a member of Sveriges Fiskevattenägares förbund. The fishing-permit rules are determined in consultation with Bertejaure village association, which owns half the lake. The other half is currently regulated by Länsstyrelsen i Västerbotten and the fjällfiskekort. The company safeguards the landowners' interests and offers guests good fishing with access to fine infrastructure.
