NEW 2024 - free child/youth permit During 2024, we will test offering free child/youth permits, which can be obtained by children and young people up to and including 16. The fishing permits for children and young people are limited to 3/day and are in addition to the 6 existing fishing permits. We have removed the requirement that a parent/guardian/adult must be present while fishing and hold a fishing permit. We nevertheless recommend that a parent/guardian/adult accompany younger children and obtain fishing permits for them. Fishing 2025 This year's fishing opens on Sunday 1 June and continues until Monday 30 June. The fishing permits are available in the shop from 31 May. Catch reporting In Tvärån, catch reporting is mandatory. Modern management The fishery conservation association manages fishing in the entire river from its confluence with Umeälven upstream to the outlet of Kullasjön. Tväråns FVF has chosen a management model that must not harm the stocks; everything must be based on sustainable fishing. We want to lead the way in sound management for the benefit of our guests. That is why we apply so-called “Catch and release” (catch & release), so that the fish have a chance to survive and the stocks can continue to grow, allowing more people the chance to catch fish. That is also why we close fishing when temperatures in the river begin to rise, so that the fish are not at risk of harm. Welcome to fish with us! Expect wonderful dry-fly fishing for large grayling. Information about Tvärån-Kullabäcken. Tvärån is a small centrally situated river in Umeå city, with grayling and a small stock of migratory and resident trout as well as pike. During periods, Västerbotten's provincial fish may also remain in the river. Like the majority of our watercourses, Tvärån has been heavily affected by human activity. For many years, the association has actively worked to improve water quality to benefit fish stocks. Previously, there were two definitive migration barriers in the river. The first barrier was at Kvarnbron, where a dam was replaced with a natural sill to enable fish migration. The second migration barrier was at Forslunda upper secondary school. Here, Tväråns FVF constructed a so-called bypass channel (a fish passage in the form of a stream) around the dam so that the fish could continue freely upstream. Today, the association has succeeded in bringing migratory trout and large grayling back to the river. We are proud of our work, but much remains to be done to further improve conditions for sustaining rich plant and animal life along the river. We hope that those visiting Tvärån will help care for the river. In the area there are one or more waters for catch-and-release, i.e. the fish are carefully released after being caught.
