Såkens Sjösystem

Såken is situated in the northern part of Svenljunga municipality, in the middle of scenic Sjuhäradsbygden. The lake is approx. 450 ha and has great variation, with islands, steep depths, shallows and a partly very rocky bottom; the maximum depth is 28 m. Såken is part of the Ätran catchment and is included in Projekt Ätranöring, which aims to increase the stock of Ätran trout in the area. For several years, zander fry have been stocked annually to increase the stock; the zander grow well because of the large quantity of small vendace in the lake. Eel is also stocked regularly. In addition to zander, there are pike, perch, whitefish, burbot, eel and vendace. Besides exciting fishing in a challenging lake, Såken offers an exceptional nature experience with forests, rocky shores and vertical cliffs, as well as bathing beaches for non-anglers. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 15. Såkens Sjösystems FVO was founded in 1989 after having existed for many years as an organisation under the name Såkens Fiskevårdsförening. When the area was formed, the lakes Mellsjön, Frammesjön and Yttersjön were added. Fishing-permit income is used solely for fish-conservation measures.
