Ätran - a classic salmon water and one of the most distinguished wild salmon rivers in Sweden; within the fisheries management area there are many fine fishing opportunities! The water contains, among other species, salmon, sea trout, pike, perch, eel, burbot, tench and roach. In places you will find fine stretches for fly fishing for salmon and trout, but the water is also known for holding large specimens of pike. Ätran and the tributary Högvadsån have a genuine salmon stock that is especially worthy of protection. It is in principle wholly unaffected by farming. Thanks to extensive fisheries and water conservation, they have succeeded in retaining the self-reproducing salmon. Ätran, including its headwaters, is approximately 243 kilometres long. It is the second most powerful of the four Halland rivers. Ätran flows from a bog in Gullered at 332 metres above sea level, through south-eastern Västergötland, and empties into Kattegatt at Falkenberg. Ätrans Nedre Fiskevårdsområde extends from the bridge in Vessigebro to the bridge over the old E6 in Falkenberg, approximately 150 metres upstream of Hertings power station. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 14. There are free permits, which must be obtained, for children and young people. The association manages fishing from the bridge in Vessigebro to the mouth at the sea and comprises approximately 250 properties with fishing rights. We sell permits for the stretch between the bridge in Vessige and the old E6 bridge. The association was formed in 1991 under the Fisheries Management Areas Act (1981:533), with the purpose of coordinating fishing and fisheries management, promoting the shared interests of fishing-right holders with regard to the provisions applicable to the exercise of fishing, and making fishing available to the public. A member of the association is anyone who owns property with fishing rights in the area.
