Lake Södra Wixen is just over 510 ha and belongs to the Emån water system and is one of the uppermost branches of the Solgen section.The lake has strong stocks of large perch and pike. Perch fishing is perhaps among the best in the highlands, both in terms of numbers and size, in both summer and winter. Perch over the kilogram mark are common. The largest documented perch in the lake was 1,9 kg. The largest landed pike so far is just over 14 kg. The lake also has a strong stock of signal crayfish, which provides a good food base for the lake's large perch and pike. Fishing for signal crayfish, however, is limited to landowners only.The most common fishing in the lake is spinning, jig fishing and trolling, but fishing with bait from a boat can also be rewarding. Jig fishing and ice fishing are popular when the ice is safe. Södra Wixen is a clear-water lake with very good water quality and is classified as a Natura 2000 area. An example of the good water quality is the occurrence of valuable and rare species, for example the blue-green alga lake cloudberry. The lake constitutes one of the county's regionally most important recreational fishing lakes. Södra Wixen has high biological diversity, mainly due to a relatively species-rich fish and bird fauna, a large lake surface, and a varied shoreline. Breeding bird species in the lake include osprey, black-throated diver, great crested grebe, red-breasted and goosander, goldeneye and mallard. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 17. Södra Wixen FVOF manages fishing in the lake and makes recreational fishing available to the public. The association wishes to safeguard the lake's good status and offer sustainable fishing based on knowledge of the lake's long-term production capacity.
