Värnen, also called Trollebosjön, lies in Vetlanda Municipality approximately 2 mil south-east of Vetlanda. The lake is part of Emån's water system and is drained via Farstorpaån (Skärveteån). The lake surface is 283 ha and the shoreline is 18.9 km. Värnen is mostly surrounded by forest. It is a shallow lake with an average depth of approximately 3 m. There are five deep holes where it is more than 5 m deep. The maximum depth is 17 m. The lake is shallow over large areas and has reeds along the shoreline, which limits fishing from land. A rowing boat is available for hire for those unable to use their own boat on the lake. Perch and pike are the most common fish species in the lake, but bream, carp, roach, rudd, whitefish and tench also occur. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 15. The purpose of the fisheries conservation area's is to promote and organise fishing in the waters named above and to provide fishing through the sale of fishing permits to the public.
