Fishing tipsRoad bridgeThe currents downstream of the road bridge are classic. Here the majority of all large chub and rudd have been caught. The fine currents can be seen very clearly when passing over the bridge. However, be careful where you dip the hook, as fishing is only made available downstream of the red-marked posts, about 100 m downstream of the bridge. The area attracts chub from several km of slow-flowing water downstream, and a hook baited with a piece of bread or prawn tail here usually produces a few really large chub every year. The rudd become active during high summer around the water-lily belts. The largest documented rudd is a summer fish of 1 300 g. The fish are in fine condition, but a couple of hectograms more should be the reward for anyone who finds the rudd before spawning. So far, no one has caught sight of gravid rudd, but neither have any serious attempts been made. Several large silver bream and roach of 800 g have been caught at the road bridge.FarmOn the slow-flowing stretches downstream of the road bridge there are many fine current edges and backwaters with overhanging willow thickets to fish. Helige å divides into two channels upstream of the Farm and the eastern one is the most interesting. There are many chub here, but the really large ones seem to be absent. Early in spring and especially in autumn, occasional fine roach have been caught on this stretch.Fe:etThe fishing places at Fe:et are not really very exciting at first sight, but really large chub have been caught here. Fe:et is the first shallower part of the river along the whole stretch up to the Farm. If you head a little further away from the footbridge that crosses the river, you can find fine fishing places both upstream and downstream. However, the terrain downstream of the footbridge is not kind to a rigged 11-foot bottom-angling rod. Large silver bream and rudd have also been caught at Fe:et. Parking for 2-3 cars along Öjavägen.VildsvinshålanVildsvinshålan is one of the larger deep pools in the river, both in terms of area and depth, which is just over six metres. The name comes from the nearby wild-boar enclosure with associated game restaurant. The river divides into two channels a couple of hundred metres upstream, and at Vildsvinshålan both channels meet and form several exciting fishing places. Early spring fishing is good unless high water causes problems. Roach bite best, but large silver bream can also be caught. Overwintering chub and rudd are, however, harder to tempt. Large pike are also said to have been caught in Vildsvinshålan.BrinkehålanBrinkehålan is the largest deep pool in the river. There are chiefly many and large silver bream here, but also the occasional chub. Fishing pressure is low; specimen anglers rarely sit here. Brinkehålan is well visited by spinning anglers because there is free passage for boats between Brinkehålan and Gemlasjön upstream.From Vildsvinshålan to Fe:etBelow Vildsvinshålan, Helige å changes character. The river has been embanked to prevent flooding of surrounding farmland. Echo sounding along the entire stretch down to Fe:et shows depths in the central channel of between 3-7 m, with most of the depth around 5 m deep. Large parts of the river are lined with willow thickets and large alders, and there are more and more interesting fishing places the closer one gets to Fe:et. The stretch between Vildsvinshålan and Fe:et has negligible fishing pressure, and anyone who likes exploratory fishing has come to the right place. Large silver bream, rudd, pike and at times also chub can be tempted on the stretch. Accessibility from land is currently limited, but the fisheries management area is reviewing this.Furen, Gemlasjön & KråkesjönThree interesting lakes for most coarse fish species. Rudd fishing at water-lily edges can sometimes be very good. All the lakes are quite difficult to reach from land, so a boat is recommended. If you bait up a place in one of the lakes, you can have enjoyable fishing as there are plenty of tench, rudd, bream and roach. Ice fishing in winter has produced several pike over ten kg in all three lakes and unexpectedly large perch in Furen, around 1,8 kg at most. SummaryAs usual, the best fishing places are very close to roads and car parks. If you want to walk a little and dare to try new places, there is much left to discover in Helige å. There are, however, not many current stretches with low fishing pressure, but mostly deeper and more slow-flowing sections; on the other hand, these are virtually unfished. The fisheries management area is working to improve access to the river. Until this is complete, remember to park so that you do not obstruct agricultural machinery and the like. Helige Å fisheries management area association was formed in 1985.Helige Å is the name of the part of Mörrumsåns main channel that lies between Helgasjön and Lake Salen. Within Växjö and Alvesta kommuner. The drop in elevation between Helgasjön and Salen is approximately 21 metres. Most of the river is slow-flowing but is interrupted by shorter current stretches. The stretch includes several lakes, Bergkvarasjön, Kråkesjön, Gemlasjön and Furen before the outlet into Salen. Along Helige å there is extensive outdoor recreation, chiefly sport fishing and the canoe route between Helgasjön and Getnögård in Lake Åsnen.
