Skedviken

Skedviken is located just under four mil east of Uppsala and half a mil north-west of Rimbo locality. It lies in agricultural country, with cultivated land reaching the shores to the west, north and east. Only in the south does continuous forest begin at the lakeshore. Although there are bus connections to these areas, having access to your own car is a great advantage. The parts easiest to reach from public roads are the northern and western parts. These are the point at the shore of Sörbodaviken (a forest road from the west leads down here), Mörby ruin (reached from Fasterna church), and the pier below Rånäs nursing home. The lake is shallow and a fairly typical lowland lake, although the reed growth is not very extensive. The reeds are mostly limited to a fringe along the shore, and the shape of the lake means that Skedviken has a large open water surface. In the southernmost bay, Sörbodaviken, the reeds are most extensive and form a wide fringe along the western shore. In addition, there are plenty of perch, pike and coarse fish. Boat: There is no ramp for launching a boat in Skedviken. Smaller boats can probably be carried down at Rånäs. A float tube is recommended. Birds: Skedviken is best known for the abundant occurrence of goosanders and red-breasted mergansers in late autumn. However, the lake is worth visiting at other times of year too. In addition to resting waterbirds in spring and autumn, bitterns can be heard in the reeds and several species of nocturnal singers along the shores during the early-summer nights. Other: The forest road down to Sörbodaviken is private and you must not drive on it without the owner’s permission, even if the barrier is raised. The same applies to the road down to Djurgården. Mörby ruin is private property and may therefore not be entered unless it is expressly stated that this is permitted.
