Volgsjöns FVOF Generally: The Volgsjön fishery conservation area consists of the lakes Volgsjön, Fatsjön, Baksjön, Insjön and Svansjön with associated watercourses. Children/young people under the age of 15 fish with a guardian's fishing license in their company. Fishing season: Fishing can be done all year round, in winter of course as ice fishing. When winter fishing, be aware of the weak ice at the stream channel in Lake Volga at the beginning and end of the season. Ice conditions are usually safe from February to mid-April. The ice usually forms on Lake Volga in November and breaks up in mid-May, with boat launch sites being ice-free a week or so later. On the smaller lakes with less flowing water, the ice sets a little earlier and also thaws a little later . Methods: All waters are open for sport fishing with ice sticks, casting, fly and fishing rods, as well as trolling. One gear per fisherman. Catch restrictions: Max 10 fish/day, of which max 3 are fine fish/day. Minimum dimensions at sea: Trout 35 cm. Grayling 30 cm. Window outlet in flowing water: This means that fish above or below these measurements must be released back to be able to reproduce. Trout 35 to 50 cm. Grayling 30 to 40 cm.

Volgsjön's fisheries management area consists of the lakes Volgsjön, Fatsjön, Baksjön, Insjön, Svansjön, Skärsjön with associated watercourses. Volgsjön FVO contains a number of lakes of traditional Swedish type with Pike and Perch as the basis, but also has a solid stock of Trout, Grayling and Whitefish; these are mainly found along the channel in Volgsjön (from Bullerforsen to Volgsjöfors). Trout/Grayling are also found in abundant numbers at Volgsjön's tributaries and other flowing stretches, the areas marked with circles on the attached map which you will find further down this page (slot limits also apply here, see below under catch limit). The lakes within the fisheries management area are relatively shallow and nutrient-rich, e.g. the greatest depth in Volgsjön is approx. 17 m. Depth maps Volgsjön and Baksjön have been mapped with Garmin sonar and can be downloaded to the free app “Garmin active captain”; instructions for the procedure are in the pdf at the bottom of the page. You can also find simpler depth maps at rest areas and wind shelters are marked on the attached area map. Baksjötjärn, with Rainbow trout fishing at Vilhelmina's southern entrance, is not included in the permit; fishing in this stocked water requires a separate permit. Description of the lakes. The fish species found in the lakes are marked on the attached area map. A description also follows below. Volgsjön: Volgsjön is a lake of traditional Swedish type with Perch and Pike which reach a large size. There is a solid stock of Trout, Grayling and Whitefish, which is mainly found along the channel from Bullerforsen to Volgsjöfors. Trout are also found in greater numbers at the lake's tributaries and other flowing stretches; see the map, the areas marked with circles (slot limits also apply here, see below under catch limit). The lake also has a large stock of vendace consisting of 4 different genetic species (according to Umeå University). Operating a boat on Volgsjön: in the area north-east of Karlsbacka, around the islands, there are plenty of stones lying just below the surface; even at a depth of 3 metres there are large stones reaching just below the surface. Preferably download the Garmin "active captain" app to avoid hitting stones; instructions for the procedure are in the pdf at the bottom. Insjön: As part of Volgsjön, it shares the fish stock with the larger lake. Baksjön: Motorboats are prohibited on this lake. Baksjön is locally known for its large perch; there is also pike and a smaller quantity of whitefish. Fatsjön: Fatsjön is a shallow nutrient-rich lake with plenty of large perch and pike, but also has a smaller quantity of whitefish and, at the inlet and outlet, trout and grayling. Svansjön and Skärsjön: Lakes of traditional type Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 15 years. Only when accompanied by a guardian/adult/person who has a valid permit (on that person's quota) Volgsjön's FVOF was formed to care for and manage fishing in Volgsjön and in the lakes and watercourses connected to the area. The area is located within Vilhelmina municipality in Västerbotten. We want to offer good fishing in scenic surroundings. The main purpose is to carry out fisheries conservation measures that benefit the existing stocks. In addition to this, 2-3000 Trout are stocked annually according to a water judgement. We also work voluntarily to maintain and improve wind shelters, jetties, boat launching sites and depth-survey lakes etc.
