Fishing is permitted in Gullspångsälven from a line across the river 300 metres downstream of the outlet tunnel mouth at the power station in Gullspång to a line across the river at Kullen Lilla Årås. Gullspångsälven's salmon (Gullspång salmon) and trout are protected stocks and catching them is therefore prohibited. Gullspångsälven is a river about 8 kilometres long that flows from Lake Skagern to Vänern. Gullspångsälven forms the boundary between Värmland and Västra Götaland. According to the Swedish Board of Fisheries, the red-listed fish asp spawns in Gullspångsälven. Gullspångsälven also contains a type of salmon, Gullspång salmon, which migrates only between the river and Vänern. What had until then been done to preserve the unique stocks of Gullspång salmon and Gullspång trout was not sufficient. Therefore, the "Save the Gullspång Salmon" project began in April 2003. Gullspångsälven offers very good angling for coarse fish, including ide. Accessibility is good, which also means that you can spin fish for pike and perch from the shore. We do not know when the association was formed, but the statutes we use were adopted on 6 May 1992. Our long-term aim is to preserve the stock of Gullspång salmon and trout unique to the area, found in Gullspångsälven.
