Fishing for the large trout in Valsjön and Hotagen gives a feeling of big-game hunting. Weights of up to ten kilos occur. Drag trolling and long-line trolling are recommended. The area contains around 60 mountain lakes, forest lakes and running waters. These include the nationally renowned Toskströmmen with a unique trout stock, as well as large grayling. In Valsjön, below the impressive Rengsfallet or at the outlet of Gunnarvattsån, large trout may be waiting! Winter anglers reach Arctic-char-rich waters, e.g. Rengen and Butjärn, via a snowmobile trail from the village. Several waters lie close to a road, e.g. Lill-Brinnsjön, but Hotagsfjällen also offers roadless, wildlife-rich long fishing trips among the Swedish and Norwegian mountain regions. Within the area there is one or more accessibility-adapted water. For more information, see the fishing area’s map, where these points are marked, or contact Valsjöns FVOF. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 17. Children and young people under 18 fish for free Valsjöns fvo lies in a scenic area near the Norwegian border and offers varied fishing geographically extending from Stor-Foskvattnet in the east to Rengen in the west. From January 2004, the Hotagen-Flinten area has been included in Valsjöns fvo, meaning that there are approximately 60 tarns. The larger lakes are Valsjön, Rengen, Stor-Foskvattnet and parts of Hotagen, plus a number of other larger lakes. Valsjöbyn lies along road 340 (Fiskevägen), 130 km north-west of Östersund. From Norway, the area can be reached via the E6, then road 74 from Grong.
