Kalix Sportfiskeklubb is based in Kalix, a municipality at the very top of the Gulf of Bothnia, where the main town of Kalix is situated on the bank of the Kalix River approximately five kilometres upstream from the river's outlet into the sea. The club was formed in 1973 and has its own waters in the form of a larger and a smaller lake containing char, trout, rainbow trout and grayling. The lakes are conveniently located just north of the built-up area. In addition, the club has fishing rights on a 7,5km stretch of the Kalix River, including Räktforsen. Kalixälven: The stretch lies on the border between Kalix and Överkalix municipalities, approximately five Swedish miles upstream from Kalix, where the angler has the opportunity to catch salmon, trout, grayling and whitefish and also enjoy beautiful northern Norrbotten scenery along an unspoilt river. Metträsket: The lake is a clear-water lake with excellent water quality, where the bottom consists of sand and gravel. There are also some areas with a coarser stony bottom. The good water clarity means that Metträsket provides opportunities for sight fishing in winter. In summer, a number of boats are available for hire, making it possible, among other things, to fish with "Långedrag", a type of fishing that can at times be very rewarding. Towing a rowing boat with a wobbler is another method, perhaps the one that gives the greatest chance of encountering the lake's large trout, fish of 2kg and more. Char can also be tempted with a wobbler, and even the large grayling occasionally takes it. Fly fishers also have much to gain from the lake. Fishing from the hire boats or a float tube is very pleasant, and large parts of the lake offer opportunities for fly fishing from the shore. Around Midsummer, the lake mayfly hatches, and it is a festive time for the dry-fly fisher when the large trout feed on the large mayflies, which in some years can occur so abundantly that the dry fly struggles to compete among all the real insects, and then it happens that one catches no fish at all. There is a small cabin with a fireplace, open to the public all year round. A road, ploughed during the winter half of the year, leads to the cabin. A car park where it is also possible to park a caravan is located 100 metres above the cabin. The road between the car park and the cabin is closed by a barrier, but it is possible to borrow a key if, due to disability or injury, you have difficulty travelling on foot. There is also a disability-friendly jetty below the cabin. The club's hire boats are also located there. There are two fireplaces by the cabin and a further number scattered around the lake. There are also two timber-built wind shelters. The fish population in the lake is replenished annually. In the years 83-87, approximately 100 000 char fry were released into the lake. The fish released today consist of trout, char and rainbow trout taken from the club's own fish farm, as well as grayling in the form of fry or one-summer-old fish. At the northern end of the lake there are two artificial spawning beds that allow self-reproduction for char. Metträsktjärn: Area: 5.5 ha Fish population: Rainbow trout, Trout Rotenone-treated: 1982 Permitted only for fishing with a fly rod. The lake receives continuous replenishment of its fish population, among other things from the club's own farm. Metträsktjärn is a pleasant lake with shores well suited to fly fishing and is also wadable in several places. The lake is reached by a footpath from a car park located along the road to Metträsket. The path is clearly marked and easy to walk. The distance to the lake is approximately: 500m. Räktforsen: Stretch: 7,5 km Fish population: Salmon, Trout, Grayling, Whitefish, Perch, Pike Since the summer of 2003, the club has leased a stretch just over seven kilometres long along the western side of Kalixälven from Sveaskog, of which the lower half consists of Räktforsen. The stretch consists of rapids alternating with calm sections. It is above all a very good sea trout water, but some salmon are also caught there. In addition, there is grayling in ordinary numbers. Räktforsen is included in the regular annual permit; however, a separate daily permit is required for the stretch. The club leases a 7km stretch of the western side of the Kalix River, the side on which road E10 runs. The stretch contains both fast- and slow-water sections and gives an angler the chance to catch salmon, trout and grayling as well as perch and pike.
