Miekojärvi village’s partition association and Sv ... Miekojärvi is Norrbotten province’s largest lake, situated on the municipal boundary between Överkalix and Övertorneå. The lake currently holds a stock of very large pike and good zander fishing for fish weighing around one kilo. There is also plenty of perch. The permit-fishing area includes the largest part of the lake, Miekojärvi’s partition association and Svea Skog’s water, approximately 1300ha in total. NOTE! The water area in Övertorneå municipality is not included (2 different partition associations); see the map markings for further information. The lake has two larger inflows and an outlet that further downstream forms Sangis älv. The lake lies almost in a north–south direction and is 16 km long in total. The village itself lies mainly on a long, narrow peninsula and an island in the middle of the lake. Several settlements existed around the lake as recently as the 1940s. There is a road from Allsån, 16km, all the way out to the point, where there is a launching site. From Kalix, drive via Kypasjärvi–Svartträsk; from Luleå it is 13 Swedish miles. The central part of Miekojärvi (the main lake) has a larger area with depths of 10–15 metres. There are several shallower areas of 4–7 metres with shoals and rocky bottoms, where perch hold on the shoals and zander on the slopes down towards the depths. The southern part of Miekojärvi (the south lake) has areas of 3–4 metres and depths down to 11 metres. The northern part (the north lake) is the shallowest. Large parts of the area are 3–4 metres deep, with an occasional 7-metre hole. The association intends to check possession of a valid permit using external inspection staff. The number of zander retained is 3 per day. Only sport-fishing tackle may be used, and fishing must take place in the authorised area.
