Tärendö byavatten

Tärendö samfällighetsförening is one of the largest individual water owners in the Kalix River and owns the waters around and surrounding the world-unique bifurcation. From Roikoniva (the power line) south of Saarisuando past Tärendö to Tievakoski at the Sveaskog boundary just south of Männikkö village along the Kalix River (approx. 32 km). From Tärendöholmen to the northern part of Jukkassuando (to Lovikka village waters) along the Tärendö River (approx. 20km). Of the rivers, the middle section of Narkån (Naarkausjoki) is the largest; some fishing can also be carried out in Äihämäjoki. The area has few lakes, but fishing for pike and perch can be carried out in Äihämäjärvi and Halinkojärvi. The waters contain the commonly occurring fish species found in the area, such as salmon, trout, pike, perch, grayling, whitefish, ide, etc., but salmon fishing is what the angler sees as the great challenge. The availability of salmon is best in the Kalix River; the popular grayling and trout fishing is also available along the entire river stretch. The road network makes it easy to reach a favourite spot, except for the northern part of the Tärendö River, which has no longitudinal roads. Barbecue sites are available in several places along the rivers, and there is an overnight cabin by the Tärendö River. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 15.
