NOTE: Important things to consider when re-launching The fish's chance of survival after release is primarily affected by: Hooking. Fish that are hooked shallowly have a better chance of recovering. Air exposure. Fish that are exposed to air for a short time are subjected to less stress and strain. The drill. Shorter drills reduce stress on the fish and improve the chances of recovery, especially in warm water. Depth. Fish with a closed swim bladder (for example, perch and pike-perch) can be damaged by the change in pressure if they are caught in deeper water. Some of the most important things you as an angler can do to minimize negative impacts on fish are therefore to: Plan your fishing. Decide in advance which fish you will keep and how many – consider avoiding restocking at high water temperatures. Adapt your equipment. Always have a good pair of pliers and a strong cutter close at hand for quick and gentle unhooking. Single hooks instead of treble hooks and nets with rubber mesh also increase the chance of successful release. Keep the fishing and handling short. Bring the fish home quickly and in a controlled manner and minimize handling – especially the time the fish is above the water surface. Hedevikens FVOF wishes YOU a good fishing trip!
