Furen

Lake Furen lies in Jönköping and Kronoberg counties in Småland.Furen has rich fish fauna. In a survey fishing study in 2004, eight fish species were obtained: perch, bleak, bream, pike, ruffe, zander, roach and vendace. In addition to these species, whitefish, burbot, eel, rudd, tench and occasional trout are also found in Furen. Survey fishing was also carried out in 2015. In the 2015 survey fishing, the result was the same as in 2004.Furen has two bathing places; Hyltan and Smålands Hawaii. Värnamo Municipality is responsible for these municipal bathing places.Boat ramp: Furens FVOF has had a boat ramp cast to facilitate launching boats. It is located at the Smålands Hawaii bathing place. Trailers are parked at the entrance to Smålands Hawaii. Remember always to check the water level first before setting out by boat. Furen’s water-level regulation is extensive, with a current regulation amplitude of 1,30m.The water level in Furen has been regulated for hydropower purposes since 1927 via regulating dams in the two outlets of downstream Flåren.The water-level regulation is very extensive. In a water judgment from 1923, the impoundment limit was set at +152,00m and the lowering limit at +149,40m, which gives a regulation amplitude of 2,60m. To achieve gentler regulation, a voluntary agreement was made with Sydkraft in 1996. At present regulation takes place only to half the extent, i.e. 1,30m. Furens FVOF was formed by a decision of the County Administrative Board in Jönköping County on 9 September 1978. The main reason for its formation was that joint management of the entire lake was considered important in order to be able to decide on fisheries management measures. The association’s purpose is to promote and organise fishing in Lake Furen and the relevant part of Årån, and to make fishing available to the public through the sale of permits. Furens fishing conservation area includes Lake Furen and part of Årån in Voxtorp and Rydaholm parishes, Värnamo Municipality, and Berga parish, Ljungby Municipality. The boundary at the inflow Årån is constituted by the road bridge belonging to road 734 (Åsbro), and at the outflow by an imaginary line drawn across Furen’s mouth in Edån (Årån). Furens fishing conservation area covers 1169 hectares.The association includes 114 properties with fishing rights. The association’s surplus has been used for stocking fish, fisheries supervision and services in the form of boats, jetties, boat ramp and gravelling of roads.
