It is scenically located in the hilly forest landscape of south-eastern Skåne, surrounded by old broadleaved forests and semi-natural grasslands. Gyllebosjön is part of a Natura 2000 area and in 2009 Gyllebo nature reserve was formed, covering the lake and the nearest surroundings. Gyllebosjön is the largest lake in Österlen. It is a deep spring-fed lake with relatively clear water and a rich fish fauna.The lake holds many natural fish species; such as pike, perch, tench, crucian carp, bream, zander, roach. In addition, zander have been stocked during the 2000s.There are also many floating-leaved and submerged plants in the lake, including yellow water lily, hornwort and blunt-leaved pondweed. Along the lake bed lies “Munkaryggen”, an esker.Boats are normally launched in the first half of April. Retrieval normally takes place in the second half of November. Free fishing for children and young people up to and including the age of 11 years.
